After the Calamity, everyone she cared about was dead or gone, and she was on her own. She barely survived for years, living on the streets, stealing scraps, and being in and out of gaol cells. She’s finally starting to make a name for herself since becoming an adult and being a little more experienced. She’s bold, reckless, brash, generous, hotheaded, and thrill seeking.

RP Hooks

  • You walk by her in the street. You don't pay much attention to her, but shortly afterward your purse is gone and your pockets are empty.

  • At nearly any tavern or pub, you can always bump into an excitable Miqo'te who wants to share and hear stories of faraway places and strange people and creatures. As well as to get very drunk.

  • You're forming a party of adventurers and you need someone who can scout ahead. Ask around at an Adventurer's guild and her name will turn up.

  • You're an underworld element who needs a smuggler or a thief who won't ask too many questions.

Birth and early childhood
A young traveling singer named Pahu Panzeh got a little too drunk in the tavern one night and fooled around for a night with an aspiring goldsmith named Jaka’to Jinjahl in Gridania. They had a son whom they named Pahu’a Panzeh. As she could no longer travel due to pregnancy and motherhood, Pahu had to stick to Gridania, where clients generally prefer more traditional styles rather than Pahu’s “provocative” style. And Jaka’to’s frustration with not making quick and easy progress in the goldsmithing trade meant He decided to move the family to Ul’Dah when Pahu’a was 4 years old. He was all but certain of his own genius, and that he would immediately become rich and wealthy. Exactly the opposite happened. Jaka’to became indebted to all sorts of moneylenders and even criminals trying to finance his wild get rich quick schemes, few of which ever worked. And if they did work, he had to spend all he made to keep from having his legs broken and his child sold as a slave. Pahu couldn’t stand it for long and left after a year, going back to her traveling singing career.

Childhood
To say that things were rough for Pahu’a was an understatement. Jaka’to often blamed his financial problems on the burden of raising her and became resentful and neglectful. Often he seemed to even forget she existed, only bothering to give her a scrap of bread once a day if he remembered, too busy toying with trinkets and machines, though he hardly fed himself well either. Thus Pahu’a took to the streets almost as soon as she arrived in Ul’Dah, mostly just out of boredom, but also from hunger. The first time she stole something was a month after they arrived in the city, when she swiped a piece of fruit from a stand. Being 4, she was easily seen, but as the merchant was yelling at her and scaring her off, another person was watching. This was Sannavaix Luna, of the Lunar Eclipse. The Lunar Eclipse were a minor street gang in Ul’Dah. They weren’t too well known, but most of the lower classes and refugees had at least heard their name. It was made of mostly orphans, outcasts, and refugees, but they operated like a family, changing (or in the case of orphans, getting) their surname to Luna, or Lunar, or something else moon related. They mostly engaged in petty theft, burglary, pickpocketing, and minor cons, but they shared their meager wealth among themselves. After their founder, a disgraced businesswoman from Ishgard named Alia Deluna, passed away, Sannavaix became the leader, and he ran it in much the same way, becoming a revered parental figure to most of the group, even though he was only 31. He often went out of his way to help poor people, endearing him to some of the downtrodden.

And thus did he chance upon young Pahu’a. He took her aside and gave her some food and then taught her some tricks to avoid getting caught. He also taught her essentials for surviving on the streets of the rough and unforgiving city, and he essentially raised her like his daughter. A few months in he suggested she try pretending to be a girl to get more sympathy when begging or getting caught stealing. And then, Pahu’a realized very soon that she felt more honest as a girl, like it was truly who she was. So she kept on, even when not begging or stealing. She wanted a name that wasn’t a boy’s name, and Sannavaix suggested Alia. She joined the gang fully at 7 years old and became Alia Luna. Shortly after this she met Lyn, another street orphan, who became a close friend of hers throughout childhood.

Adolescence
Just as Alia had entered adolescence, the skies darkened and burned and the world was wrecked with the calamity. Many people she knew died. Sannavaix survived, and began trying help dig through the rubble to find survivors. A crazed and panicking survivor stabbed after he was rescued, recognizing him and believing he was trying to loot the wreckage and rob the survivors, and he died amid the chaos. Alia fled the scene after that, and though her biological father survived as well, she barely saw him again, living on the streets, sleeping on the streets, and stealing to survive.
A kindly Lalafellin physician and alchemist who worked mostly with the lower classes and knew Sannavaix was sympathetic to her and began to give her potions which would help her body develop in and transition to a more feminine direction.
She went to gaol for theft twice before she had become an adult, though her youth meant she got lighter sentences and better treatment.
When she turned 17 she had had enough of Ul’Dah. Every step forward was two steps into the pocket of some monetarist. So she just left, with only the clothes on her back.

Age 17-22
She didn’t make it far on the road before a group of bandits caught her, seeing the easy prey of a young girl on her own. She very nearly got sold into slavery, but luckily for her while she was being carted off the bandits were attacked by a rival gang of bandits and the potential slaves mostly escaped amid the chaos, herself among them. Alia fled to Vesper Bay and took a boat across the sea to La Noscea, eventually settling in Limsa Lominsa, where she got along with the pirates, rogues, thieves, and cutthroats that called the city home. Less people their judged her rough nature and low birth, and saw her criminal past as potential skill. She managed to find work beyond simple theft, and though she did get a brief gaol sentence once, turned out to be successful enough to eventually get an apartment in the city. She began to do more jobs, mainly smuggling, burglary, and reconnaissance work for underworld and black market clients.

Present day
She met a Xaela named Chinua Hotgo, who she fell in love with and continues to be one of her romantic partners (She doesn’t consider herself monogamous)
She began to be sponsored by a mysterious benefactor, a client she had done multiple jobs for, but who did not give any information about himself.
She accomplished one of her dreams in going to the Far East on a simple job to establish business with a Doman gang of drug dealers, but it went wrong and they turned on her, holding her hostage and torturing her for a week before a slighted former member of the gang, taking revenge, rescued her. It was a Xaela who’d been taught ninjutsu, and she passed this knowledge on to Alia in exchange for helping her wipe out the gang. After doing so and returning to Eorzea, the client offered her her own ship as a reward. The ship, which she named the Fenghuang, after a legendary Doman bird, is small, but she uses it now for more lucrative smuggling runs as well as personal travel, and she plans on hiring a couple permanent crew members in the future.
